Springwood Changes

If the first visit to Springwood astonishes, the second visit invites you to investigate all that has changed. It may be as subtle as a new fountain, a previously unnoticed wood carving, or the new, calming sounds of water flowing over quarried stone into the new island pond.

However frequently you visit, even if there are no structural changes apparent, you will always enjoy the natural changes gracing Springwood from day to day, month to month, and season to season.

Be sure to ask one of our event coordinators if there are modifications or additions planned. Here we attempt to preview recent changes.

Springwood Manor
In the spring of 2009, the original wood-frame farmhouse underwent a number of modifications to make our service more efficient and to improve the flow of each event. First, we moved our dishwashing function to the basement. Although this change required alterations to the structure on both the lower level and the first floor, it also provided more space for guests in the living room/parlor area of the original Hoechstetter home by eliminating the original house kitchen. At the same time, we modified the Grill Room to include permanent granite bars. Our bartenders can now serve guests from the deck as well as from inside the house. This change has also improved our service to your guests.

The Garden Square
"The Garden Square" is a 70' x 70' outdoor area that has been landscaped to create another site for wedding ceremonies and other outdoor celebrations. The area is formerly the site of Mr. Hoechstetter's two large greenhouses, and thus, is below ground level by about ten feet. The Square can be entered by two sets of stairs. The groom's entrance is an original cut-stone stairway while the bride, bridesmaids, mothers and guests typically enter by way of a wide flagstone and wooden staircase that is flanked at the bottom on two sides by retaining walls. A third side of the Square is bounded by an existing block building which is lined by a natural arbor leading to the pergola, site of many beautiful ceremonies. The garden square is handicap-accessible via an entrance from a service road that, if taken to its end, will lead to the Villa.

Springwood's Villa - Overnight Accommodations & Recreational Facilities
One of the most exciting additions to Springwood is the "Villa," a three-bedroom brick house on nine adjacent acres. Perfect for overnight accommodations for Springwood Entrance to Springwood Villa Suiteguests and conference participants, the Villa also includes an in-ground, heated swimming pool and shuffleboard court. Renovations to the house and pool are complete while changes to adjacent recreational facilities are still in progress. Out-of-town wedding guests, bridal parties, and other Springwood conference participants can travel easily between the Manor and the Villa--by walking or riding through the woods on the estate's trails or by driving through the stone pillars of the Manor to the Villa's long driveway, lined by pine trees, off of Hulton Road. Picnic Shelters
With sixty acres, there are naturally many areas that are suitable for picnics and other outdoor recreational events. One such area has already been designated and is used by a local boy scout troop for their outdoor activities. In the future, Springwood plans to place picnic shelters and grills in more of these areas in order to make them available for a wider variety of activities.
